VANITIES & SINKS

There are a number of vanity design styles, countertop materials and faucets to choose from, as well as a wide array of sink styles. Some are more practical than others:

You can purchase sink and faucet sets (or combos), or you can opt to buy the sink and faucet separately.

Fixtures include toilets, of which there are basically 4 different types:

Depending on your selection of sinks and bathtubs, it may limit the faucet and tub filler configurations you can install. They include:

  • Freestanding / floor-mount

The most popular faucet finishes are chrome, brushed chrome, nickel and copper, although there are a few others to choose from.

FLOOR & WALL TILE

Is there a difference between floor and wall tile? Yes. The general rule is that floor tile can always be used for walls, however, usually not the other way around. Why? Because wall tile is typically softer and therefore more prone to cracking and breaking. Walls aren’t walked on, floors are, so floor tiles need to be able to stand up to heavy foot traffic. Here are the more popular types of floor and wall tile:

  • Porcelain

  • Ceramic

  • Stone

  • Marble

  • Stone

  • Glass

Heated floors are also a really nice upgrade, so it’s something to consider.

LIGHTING

Although general lighting is important in a bathroom, the predominant type of lighting needed is task lighting – above sinks, inside showers, around make-up mirrors, etc. The right color temperature and brightness of the bulbs is also key. The types of lighting fixtures that are best for bathroom use are:

  • Heated towel racks

We recommend white towels that are thick and absorbent, clean and fresh smelling, and plenty of them. His & Hers white, thick bathrobes are also a nice touch. We also suggest you provide a variety of organic soaps, shampoos, lotions, etc. for your guests to use.
